Overrated Armor Thread
I saw an underrated armor thread in here, so I thought I'd start one about the overrated armors. Lots of different armors are available for everyone, but some aren't worth the price. People just want them because they're "leet" and "are awesome to have". Here are my opinions of the overrated armors:
Obsidian - Most expensive armor in the game and only a few really look good
Rit Elite Kurzick - Yeah I don't get that design, to me it looks hideous, but if you want to wear it go nuts
Primeval - Same as obsidian (expensive and doesn't look all that great on some professions)
Ancient - Same as obsidian and primeval
For dyes, lots of people have black or white armor just to have it. Sure it looks great, but I think if you dye your armor it should be because you really like it that way, not just to have the most expensive dyes in the game.
That's all I can think of now. hehe What does everyone else think?

I've found Assassin Ancient armor to be pretty iffy. That and War Kurzick, if you don't wear a cape it looks like a diaper.

Black dyed monk FoW with the Mo Zing Mask and Chaos Gloves - both genders. Seriously, do people strive to be clones of eachother?
Lose the Tormented Shield and black Voltaic Spear too because it's totally overdone and overrated.
I'm not saying all of the above look bad. Mo Zing Masks look decent on some Assassin armours, Chaos Gloves can be pulled off tastefully and Voltaic Spears are cool. There's such a thing as overdoing it though.
I far prefer warrior Primeval armour to warrior Obsidian. It's different.

Black Primeval Armor on a Dervish is probably the most used armor in the game

nvm.. the thread was underrated.
1. There is no such thing as overrated armor.
2. Overrated - Saying something is good, when in reality, it is not.
3. Personal preference and opinion cannot be overrated.
4. Do you mean insignas or runes?

It's all subjective, Lawrence.
I'm gonna add the Mo Zing mask to the list.

I bought Primeval Armor on my Male Ranger and dyed the chest and leggings part yellow. The gauntlets and boots were dyed orange. I like it very much.
You'd certainly not catch my Elementalist wearing the Primeval Armor. That is one of the variations I don't like.

It was very hard to tell where there were going with that design. Some of them are interesting, no doubt, but some of them feel more like an artistic statement rather than something that appeals "more to the awesome".

Did it ever occur to you that some people like to spend money and this is a good way to do it? I don't think these people go out to buy armor saying, "this is so RED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GOing ugly, but I want to look like HIM!" They probably like it, they can wear their money on their sleeve, and it empties some gold space.
Voltaic spear is my favourite spear, and the tormented shield is one of my favourite shields. I also happen to really like my obsidian armor sets for my different characters, and I decided on them after realizing I didn't want other sets.

This.
Well, if by overrated, the OP meant armor skins that are used too much and don't look as good as rarer-used ones, it'd have to be:
- Warrior Platemail 1k - Every Prophecies W/Mo's dream... no-one else's though.
- Some Obs armors just plain aren't worth it for the looks.
- Many of the 1k ele armors are pretty boring.

I agree for the most part, but it is mainly based on opinion.
I personally think all FoW armour is butt-ugly, but other people such as you like it. It also happens that FoW armour is extremely commonly seen around.
This, unlike the underrated armour thread, is mostly based on opinion amongst those few armoursets used.

Any male armour dyed pink
Most armours dyed black (covers up far too many details in the texture of the armour)
Non-Elite Plate Mail (just say no to piggy-mail)
Gladiator's armour (especially the man-bra)
Chaos Gloves, Destroyer Gloves, Glacial Gloves, Dragon Gauntlets
Mask of the Mo-Zing (on anything but assassins), Dread Mask
Ancient Ritualist armour (actually, I'm not sure if this is overrated, but it's definately ugly)
Most assassin armour (ie all the ones with the riduculous blades boking out of them for no reason)
edit:
Primeval Necro (yeah, because channeling dark arcane forces means you get to look like a fishy)
Primeval Warrior (I have no idea what this armour is supposed to be. It looks like a glob a clay that was dried in a strong wind)

Interesting to see this thread get flak, yet no one was bothered by the "underrated armor" thread? I smell criticism in the midst.

Male warrior FoW is my favorite set of armor, and I definitely agree and see why it's overrated. I just like the look and feel of it.

We are on two completly different wave lengths then i think no one appreciates them and theyre underated. The ritualist armor and especially female ancient is great and very unique. The assasin armor on the other hand looks prettty nice with some of them. nothing wrong with a few little blades or spikes

I thought it was a gorgeous set for the female. But for the dude it looks a bit too messy. That may be the point, but I wish it had the elegance present in the female.
Regarding the sin armor: I really started to like all the pointy blades on my armor, until I realized they were always bigger than my daggers...

Being wrapped up like a mummy isn't that great of a thing. Especially the whole decayed mouth thing. That might be more in the necro department. Communing with the spirit world doesn't really imply mummified remains to me.
As for the assassins those blades are pointless and impractical. If you cannot accomplish a fight with a pair of daggers, having 3, foot-long blades sticking out of your shoulders isn't going to help...actually it's most likely to hinder you.

Monk FoW. Wtf is wrong with you people? Or chaos gloves on a large, fat warrior.
Elemental/Tormented swords on casters in RA ;d
Warrior FoW. Give me 50kg of metal plates, few screws, a drill and a large hammer. Obsi armor finished, 700k saved. And you look even better.
Mo Zing masks, on monks and assassins. On the first one fugly, on the other lame. ZOMG IMA NINJA BOW LOLOLOL
Btw. Not all obsis are bad. Mesmer one is nice, female...

I HATE Dread Masks. You will never catch me dead in one of those. I think the idea and basic look of chaos gloves is good, but is way overrated because of how horrible they go with the rest of the armour. (Leaving half of the warriors fore-arms bare, who the hell thought that one up?). I think most obsidian armours are simply not worth it, though there are exceptions.
The most overrated armour in my opinion though, is Ele Obsidian. I think it makes them look like armadillos. In truth, I can think of only one or two ele sets that I DO like.
